「光随心行」

Let light move as it will.

Liuli is shaped by fire, time, and intention, revealing layered translucence through deliberate transformation.

Shaped through balance, liuli symbolizes clarity and harmony, holding light gently through change.

Liuli is a material with a long and esteemed history in East Asia, refined through centuries of kiln craftsmanship that balance fire, time, and human intention. Historically reserved for royalty and ceremonial use, it was valued for its layered translucence and rarity, coming to symbolize clarity, protection, and transformation — a material of both cultural significance and enduring prestige.

Behind the Scenes of  Liuli Jewelry

Balance. Patience. Light.

The Beginning of Clarity

Carefully chosen raw minerals are refined to form the foundation of liuli’s depth and translucence. Balance begins here, before fire ever touches form.

Where Fire Transforms

Within the kiln, intense heat reshapes material and color through patience rather than force. Liuli’s luminous character emerges through controlled transformation.

The Quiet Pause

Cooling unfolds slowly, allowing tension to release and harmony to settle. This moment of stillness preserves strength and layered light within each piece.

The Final Refinement

Each piece is finished by hand, smoothing the surface while honoring natural variation. The form is complete — holding light gently, shaped with intention.

Qi and Karma

Liuli has long been associated with the movement of qi and the quiet accumulation of karma — a material believed to carry intention through both its making and its use. Formed through fire, time, and repeated refinement, liuli reflects the idea that energy settles where patience is practiced, and meaning is shaped through return rather than force.

In East Asian thought, karma is not sudden or dramatic, but built through small, mindful actions over time; liuli mirrors this belief, holding light gently as qi flows through it, reminding the wearer that balance, clarity, and transformation emerge through steady presence.

Story of the Designer

Shuyi Zhong 钟淑怡

Shuyi Zhong is a Chinese Liuli artist shaped by tradition, patience, and generational craftsmanship. Raised close to the art form, she learned that true beauty emerges through balance, restraint, and time — where fire, material, and intention must move in harmony.

For Shuyi, Liuli is more than material; it is a cultural language passed through generations. Her work honors its historical depth while bringing it into modern life — pieces meant to be worn, touched, and lived with rather than simply displayed.

Through her collaboration with MUDI, Shuyi introduces Liuli into everyday ritual, carrying heritage forward with clarity, care, and mindful intention.
