「温润其心」

Luster held within.

Jade has long been part of Chinese tradition, valued by scholars and collectors for its restrained surface and quiet depth. Jade was never meant to be distant — only carried, worn, and slowly shaped by time.

For this collection, we chose Hotan jade. Known for its tight structure, fine grain, and soft, even texture, it wears smoothly and develops gradually with use. The focus isn’t on how it looks at first. It’s on how it feels, how it holds, and how it changes over time. Not something to display. Something you keep.

Behind the tradition of Jade

Balance. Patience. Light.

The Stone Before the Surface

Carefully selected jade begins with its natural density, grain, and tone. The value is already within the stone — the work is to reveal it without forcing too much away.

Shaped Through Restraint

Jade is cut slowly, with attention to proportion and surface. Each curve is guided by the stone itself, allowing its color and inner texture to remain visible.

The Smooth Finish

Polishing brings out jade’s quiet luster. Not a sharp shine, but a contained glow — the kind valued in Chinese jade culture for feeling refined, smooth, and held within.

Kept Close

The final piece is made to be worn and handled. Over time, touch brings more of the surface forward, making the jade feel closer to the person who keeps it.

A Material Carried Through Time

Jade has held cultural importance in China for thousands of years, from early ritual objects to pieces carried and worn in daily life. It was valued not for brilliance, but for what it held within — a smooth surface, fine grain, and restrained luster.

In tradition, jade was kept close. Handled, worn, and understood through use as much as appearance. Its value was never only in rarity. It was in how it endured — and how it came to reflect the person who carried it.

Story of the Designer

Shuyi Zhong 钟淑怡

Shuyi Zhong is a Chinese Liuli artist shaped by tradition, patience, and generational craftsmanship. Raised close to the art form, she learned that true beauty emerges through balance, restraint, and time — where fire, material, and intention must move in harmony.

For Shuyi, Liuli is more than material; it is a cultural language passed through generations. Her work honors its historical depth while bringing it into modern life — pieces meant to be worn, touched, and lived with rather than simply displayed.

Through her collaboration with MUDI, Shuyi introduces Liuli into everyday ritual, carrying heritage forward with clarity, care, and mindful intention.
